“WHAT’S THE CRAIC?” FOR AUGUST 5, 2014”
THE CRAIC SESSION IS AT MEG O’MALLEY’S!
Please join us on Tuesday, August 5th, between 5:00-6:30 P.M. at Meg O’Malley’s on the outside patio area. This is, as always, a time dedicated to Irish culture and heritage. This upcoming session will feature a presentation on famous Irish Myths and Legends.
Steeped in fairytale, mystery and a somewhat bloody history – Ireland naturally has its fair share of chilling stories, murdered spirits and friendly ghosts. Fortunately, the Emerald Isle has never suffered much from the interference of modern ways when it comes to traditional folklore.
During the Craic Session, Greg Seán Canning will discuss various legends and their origins that have become famous over time. These will include: The Banshee, Shamrock, Faeries, Leprechauns, Changelings, Dagda’s Harp, Selkies, the Watershee, the cry of the Banshee, the Pooka, Finn MacCool, The Children of Lir, Deirdre of The Sorrows, and Cuchulainn. He will also discuss the famous “Kissing of the Blarney Stone” and the stories describing its origins.
It is our hope that you will find this session quite informative. Greg Sean’s presentation will be based on the article, “Irish Myths and Legends“, which is posted on the aohflorida.org website. Once there, go to the Cultural Tab in the top Green Menu Bar. Click the Cultural Tab and choose the “Irish Culture and Holidays” subtitle. Once there, the article is located under the “Irish Myths and Legends” subsection.
